Floyd protest plea
WASHINGTON: Former US president Barack Obama yesterday called for people to “channel our justifiable anger into peaceful, sustained, and effective action”.
He said people had to raise awareness about injustice, including through protests over the death of George Floyd in police custody last week, but then translate this into electing “government officials who are responsive to our demands”.
Obama said there was a need to recognise the “ongoing, corrosive role that racism plays in our society” and “organise and cast our ballots to make sure that we elect candidates who will act on reform”.
