Recycler coins it with switch to masks

-

DAR ES SALAAM: A recycling plant in Tanzania’s port city of Dar es Salaam is trading paper for plastic bottles and has started making anticoronavirus face shields that are being snatched up by hospitals and health centres nationwide.

Until earlier this year, Zaidi Recyclers had a thriving business in processing waste paper, exporting it to customers in China and India, earning $37 000 (R644 730) monthly, its founder Allen Kimambo said. But new orders dried up amid worldwide lockdowns. Yet Kimambo saved his business and the jobs of 38 workers by switching to face shields with orders flooding in.
