Artscape partners with community
SPORTS, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa will soon issue directions on the reopening of cinemas and theatres subject to a limitation of 50 persons or less, strict adherence to all health protocols and physical distancing measures.
The Minister’s directions will also allow for the reopening of museums, galleries, libraries and archives subject to health protocols.
These facilities must apply to the Minister within 14 days after publication of the directions to be approved for operation, subject to compliance with protocols which will be published in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Artscape Theatre has partnered with community, regional and national radio stations across the country to bring the 2020 New Voices Programme to households as radio dramas until August.
The project seeks to give an opportunity to young writers as well as restoring dignity and confidence to those who have been disregarded and under-represented in the past.
The four productions: Miela’s Box; Die Aasvoël by Elton Louw directed by 7de Laan director Denver Vraagom; A Close Call by Ann JuriesMay; and Ekugqibeleni by Lungile Nqophiso were selected from scripts, concepts and synopses submitted by young individual artists, theatre makers, directors and storytellers from across the country.
Artscape chief executive Marlene le Roux said: “We are delighted that radio stations are on board with this programme. These partnerships are vital in keeping Artscape relevant and accessible to all persons across the board during these trying times.”
