Masque Theatre reopens
City’s much-loved theatre rejuvenated
THE 61-Year-old Masque Theatre opens its doors this month thanks to a BackaBuddy campaign that raised R120 000 and support from around the world.
The Masque Theatre community have come together, with a small group of talented individuals creating This Moment – A Musical Cabaret with all proceeds being donated to The Masque Theatre.
A Covid-inspired take allows audiences to enjoy the big Broadway musical numbers as the year comes to an end. The pandemic-safe approach allowed for safe rehearsing, deeply imaginative set design and a real showcase for the hard-working performers, the theatre said in a statement.
“No theatre is out of the woods yet, as with many businesses, however the Muizenberg Community Theatre is delighted to bring an uplifting December offering to its audiences and fans.
“Next year may have new adventures in store for us all, so sometimes it’s simply time to enjoy ‘This Moment’,” the statement read.
This is the first major musical production to be staged at the Masque Theatre since the onset of lockdown.
“After competitive auditions, nine special performers bring us songs such as Maybe This Time, I’m the Greatest Star and The Show Must Go On in a sociallydistanced visual feast
“Presented by Magnetic Storm, one of South Africa’s leading event and audiovisual companies, we bring audiences the promise of exceptional sound and seamless tech,” the theatre said.
This Moment – A Musical Cabaret is on from December 11 – 20.
