Summer Pudding will be allowed to travel Cape racing all go for December
Summer Pudding will still be able to travel to Cape Town to race in the Grade 1 Paddock Stakes as she was issued with a travel permit by the SA Equine Health & Protocols NPC (SAEHP) before it temporarily suspended its service.
NHA CEO Vee Moodley emphasised that the responsibility for issuing travel permits did not lie with the NHA but said that by his understanding a travel permit that had already been issued was valid for a month. The government had delegated the task of issuing equine travel permits to SAEHP.
With the temporary suspension of the latter, the responsibility now reverts back to the State and their veterinarians.
However, this function cannot be fulfilled by the state immediately as they are not adequately resourced.
Therefore, those horses who have not yet been issued with travel permits will probably not be able to travel in December.
Paul Peter confirmed yesterday that Summer Pudding had been issued with a permit.
CAPE RACING has been in discussions with the NHRA regarding the possible temporary suspension of the movement of horses, locally and nationally.
Horses currently racing in the Western Cape have valid movement permits until 31 December 2020. Racing will continue as normal and discussions with SA Equine Health Protocols (SAEHP), Department of
Agriculture (DALRRD) and the NHRA will be ongoing until a solution for the movement of horses is established.
Today’s meeting at Kenilworth will go ahead as planned.”
