Up-and-coming Ocean View soccer star needing to score support for US dream

EIGHTEEN-year-old Uzayr Lee of Ocean View has been awarded the opportunity to study abroad and play soccer for two years at Patrick Henry Community College in Virginia in the US.

He now needs the funding to make his dreams come true.

Lee said he started playing soccer at the age of seven, and it had always been a sport he was fond of. “I started playing at a young age, locally at Ocean View, and then moving on to Ubuntu Football Academy, which is where I was given the opportunity to study in the US like the other 14 boys who attended the academy,” he said.

He added that he was very excited when he found out about the opportunity and decided to go for it.

His family has been behind him all the way, he said.

“At Ubuntu they sent out our soccer clips of the games we played to college and university coaches, and that is how the coach of Patrick Henry saw the talent and passion I have for soccer.

“This is something I've been working towards for quite a few years now and then the opportunity eventually came.

“This opportunity will help me get more exposure for my soccer career and academic aspirations as I would like to study business management. It has always been a dream of mine to study abroad and play soccer.

“These types of opportunities don't come around regularly, so I spoke to my family about it and they've been very supportive and they believe I'll benefit from this,” he said.

Lee is asking those who can help him make his dream a reality to make a donation or sponsor him.

“Seeing people contribute would make me feel blessed, as this is an opportunity of a lifetime.

“I'd be in Virginia for two years and I'd really be grateful for those who can fund me or sponsor this opportunity.

“For those who would be sponsoring it would show that they also have a sense of belief in my journey that lies ahead. That's why any opportunity that comes my way I make sure I give it my best because I know the effort people go through to get it for you and to make it possible.”
