Property to be seized

-

BAMAKO: The sheriff of the court is set to attach the property of former Malawian president Peter Mutharika to pay legal costs.

In a seizure and sale order by the registrar of the high court, the sheriff was ordered to seize and sell property belonging to Mutharika due to his failure to pay legal costs amounting to 69 million Malawian kwacha (about R1.3 million). Mutharika was found to have abused his office by attempting to force Chief Justice and Justice of Appeal Edward to go on leave pending retirement.

Meanwhile, police arrested one of Mutharika’s former bodyguards on allegations of theft of a government car.
