KRAAIFONTEIN football club, the Belmont Spurs, are on the brink of an opportunity to have its players exposed to international trials, and have appealed for help with funding for their upcoming trip.

Club founder, Brandon Timmy, said although the club is very young, he believes the talent in Belmont Park, Kraaifontein deserves the exposure for youth driven by the passion for the sport.

Timmy, who has also played for a local professional soccer team, said in 2019 he had the vision to start his own soccer team after his contract expired.

“At 23 years old it was my vision to start my own football club and it was not an easy task.

“Currently we have about 100 players in the club in their different age groups from under 10 up to our more senior players,” he said.

The club is currently using a park in Kraaifontein to train. “We really do have youth coming from dire situations and we see it when we drop them off after training. Many of them come from surrounding townships but they are so dedicated and attend training sessions almost religiously.

“They have embraced their situations and we are all truly united by the love of football,” said Timmy.

Belmont Spurs now have the opportunity to take 18 players to participate in trials in Ravne na Koroškem, Slovenia between July 28 and August 7, but each player needs to raise R36 000 to make the trip possible.

According to Timmy, they had been contacted by DK Stars who have been following the social media pages of the football club.
