Chiefs coach Zwane: We still have work to do

KAIZER Chiefs co-coach Arthur Zwane reiterated that there is still a lot of work for his side to do despite their 1-0 CAF Champions League semi-final firstleg win over Wydad AC at the Stade Mohammed V Stadium in Morocco on Saturday.

Chiefs win came largely via some excellent goalkeeping from Bruce Bvuma, combined with a well-executed strike from Samir Nurkovic.

Chiefs surpassed most neutrals' expectations in the match. They claimed a vital away goal and moreover an away win. All that the Amakhosi need to do to advance to the final of Africa's Premier club competition is to avoid a defeat by more than two goals in the return leg at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

“We came here to do the business and we did exactly that. We are happy with the result but we know it's not yet over. We have the second leg back home in Johannesburg and we will try and finish it off there,” said Zwane.

Even though Chiefs did well in the first-leg, they can ill-afford to rest on their laurels. The Soweto giants' form in the league was been erratic this season as they clumsily dropped points. If their play is again sloppy against Wydad next week, they could be punished.

“We've done what we came here for. We kept a clean sheet and wanted a goal or two. The one is okay. They will open up when they come to play us and we will try and punish them. We have another 90 minutes. It will be difficult. We were very disciplined and we hope to keep a clean sheet at home as well,” said Zwane.

Zwane also paid tribute to keeper Bvuma, who made the most of the opportunity after being picked ahead of the more experienced duo of Itumeleng Khune and Daniel Akpeyi.

Following his heroics, Bvuma was emotional after the game.

“Bruce is growing in stature and working hard as a young man. We used to work together in the development team so before the game, I told him that it will be key to keep a clean sheet. That's why he broke down because he was happy not to have conceded.

“We will have another 90 minutes to play and then we will have to make sure that we keep another clean sheet and make sure that we get another goal to wrap up the tie,” said Zwane.

Chiefs could potentially play against Al Ahly should they advance to the final. Pitso Mosimane's side put one foot in the final by recording a 1-0 away win over ES Tunis on Saturday.
