Women abuse still at alarming rate

- RIANNA WENTZEL | Grassy Park

IT HAS been said countless times, but I’ll say it again – never cease to stand up against violence inflicted on our most vulnerable citizens – more so, against our women, mothers, sisters and daughters.

Women’s Day has come and gone with crimes against our most vulnerable still continuing at an alarming rate. Who are we honouring? And what does this day, Women’s Day, mean to people all over the world? Because it is happening all over the world.

Violent acts against our most vulnerable are yet to dissipate as we are faced with these crimes on a daily basis. Without fail, the newspaper tabloids and social media greet us with horror and sadness whenever we open those pages. I am challenging you, Mr President, read the articles.

See and feel the pain and heartache that so many of us are facing on an almost daily basis. Cause a stir in the atmosphere. Something radical.

Do not apologise to heartbroken families just for the sake of apologising and to make them hopeful for a better tomorrow. Because tomorrow and all the tomorrows after that, they will still wake up feeling like they’ve been misled by false hope.

The carnage continues when we remember Cynthia Doubell whose life was violently wiped out. Think about it. Doubell could have been your mother. She was raped and murdered allegedly by her caregiver’s son. Doubell was 93 years old.

Quote by Leta B – Your Steady Soul: “The character of society coincides with how we treat our most vulnerable members of society.”

Quote by Israelmore Ayivor – Leaders’ Ladder: “True leaders spend time reviewing their mistakes rather than having fantasies over their achievements! They look for every way to do the undone!”

Do not look away.

Do not turn a blind eye!

Be the change you want to see.
