United looking to down a struggling AmaZulu

SUPERSPORT United will be aiming to continue their unbeaten start to the DStv Premiership.

Matsatsantsa have made a steady start to the new season. They drew their season opener 0-0 with Cape Town City before winning their last fixture 3-1 against Golden Arrows.

SuperSport goalkeeper Ronwen Williams said his side was happy to their league campaign start. “It’s not easy playing Cape Town City away and Golden Arrows. The two sides have given us problems over the years and we are proud and happy to have got points against them,” said Williams.

They will be up against a struggling AmaZulu who have failed to win any of their four competitive games in all competitions this season – three losses and a draw.

The Durban-based club’s most recent defeat was when they were beaten 3-1 in their first CAF Champions League game by Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets on Friday.

Coach Benni McCarthy will be under pressure to now record a first victory of the season for his club and, based on his history, one will expect his side to once again utilise attacking and positive tactics.

This is something that could potentially backfire as has happened in Usuthu’s recent games. SuperSport’s attacking players such as Sipho Mbule, Bradley Grobler and Thamsanqa Gabuza will punish the AmaZulu defence if it is caught ball watching.

“The game against AmaZulu will not be easy. They have not had the best of starts to the campaign so they are looking to get their campaign rolling. We will focus on ourselves and what we can do.

“We have analysed them well and the technical team has come up with a good plan to beat them. It will not be easy to play them away but we believe that they are beatable. We will go out there and fight and hopefully we can win,” said Williams.

Meanwhile, another area of concern for AmaZulu that SuperSport can exploit is their lack of finesse in the final third. AmaZulu have so far scored only one goal this season.
