DOUBLE-murder accused Enver Hassim will remain behind bars until his next court appearance as he pursues a bail application.

Hassim, an IT manager at Wynberg Campus of Schools, is accused of shooting and murdering Stephen Carrington, 81, and his son Robert Carrington, 56.

A calm-looking Hassim wearing a black backpack, appeared briefly at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court yesterday where his case was postponed to November 4 for a bail application.

The State said they would be opposing the Schedule 5 bail application of Hassim, a first offender and who has no previous convictions.

Hassim had handed himself over to police after he shot the father and son following an alleged altercation just after 1am at Tiverton Heights, Morton Road in Plumstead.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg had said that the matter was under investigation.

“Diep River police were called to the scene and found two adult males laying on the floor of the flat.

“They were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

“A double-murder case was opened for investigation.

“A suspect handed himself over to Diep River police in connection with the murders and was formally charged for the murders,” Twigg had said. Enquiries to confirm if Hassim remained in the employ of Wynberg Campus of Schools or if a disciplinary procedure was underway, were not answered by deadline.

The Western Cape Education Department previously distanced themselves from the incident.

“This is a non-school related incident that happened off school premises in another suburb in a residential dwelling. While the accused is employed as an IT manager for the Wynberg Campus of Schools, he does not have any direct contact with learners in this capacity,” spokesperson Bronagh Hammond had said.
