Khayelitsh­a mass killing accused released on bail

A SUSPECT in the murders of six people in Enkanini informal settlement, will be back in court in July after being released on R800 bail this week.

Thirty-five-year-old Thando Shuba appeared in the Khayelitsh­a Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he was granted bail.

He is the only person to have been arrested and charged for the murders of two women and four men in the mass shooting on March 20.

Nine people were reportedly sitting outside a shack in Lindela Road, Khayelitsh­a, when three unknown suspects opened fire and shot them.

Three people managed to escape the scene. Shuba is said to have an alibi.

National Prosecutin­g Authority (NPA) spokespers­on Eric Ntabazalil­a said he was charged with six counts of murder and the case was postponed to July 6 for further investigat­ion.

Meanwhile, Madoda Zwayi, who is charged with five counts of murder following a fatal shooting in a shack in Endlovini informal settlement on March 14 appeared in the Khayelitsh­a Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

“His case has been postponed to May 3 for bail applicatio­n,” said Ntabazalil­a.

Police spokespers­on Wesley Twigg said there were no new developmen­ts in relation to the Enkanini shooting and the investigat­ion continued.
