Frantic search for infant Kai-isha, snatched at City supermarket

- NICOLA DANIELS AND MARSHA DEAN

IT’S ALL hands on deck to find twomonth-old baby Kai-isha Menier who was snatched outside Shoprite in Bishop Lavis on Saturday.

Details are still unfolding but it seems Kai-isha was left with her two siblings when her mom ran into the store.

Western Cape Missing Persons Unit founder, Candice van der Rheede said they were also trying to get the logs of e-hailing companies as a driver may have picked up the woman and the baby.

“Everybody saw this woman until Arthur Abrahams Avenue. People were all kicking themselves because they were not aware she was stealing the child.

“At Arthur Abrahams she got into a car. We are not sure if it was private transport or a e-hailing service. We have requested all e-hailing service providers to check through their log books for someone who asked to be picked up at that location at that time, but we are still waiting.

“Apparently the mother had to leave the pram with her other two children because prams are not allowed inside the store. She probably thought she would be quick. We are relying on the public to be extra vigilant,” said Van der Rheede.

Bishop Lavis Action Community liaison officer Amanda Davids said residents were reeling.

“They wanted to know ‘how can we help?’ We had that sense of togetherness.”

Anyone with any information about the incident or who can assist to trace the suspect and the baby can contact investigating officer Thembisa Buqa on 073 519 3384/021 935 9806 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
