Work on new deep sea port going well

LAGOS: Nigeria’s first deep-sea port will create up to 170 000 jobs and bring revenue of $201 billion through taxes, royalties and duties, Lai Mohammed, the minister of Informatio­n and Culture, has said.

The port was critical to the nation’s economic developmen­t, he said in Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub.

The Lekki Deep Sea Port, built by the China Harbour Engineerin­g Company, is 60km east of Lagos.

The minister, who described the port as a game changer for the nation’s economy, expressed satisfacti­on with the level and quality of work and said Phase 1 of the project was 89% done and would be complet in September this year.
