Weekend operations lead to 623 arrests
SHOTGUNS, revolvers, pistols and ammunition were among the array of weapons SAPS confiscated from suspects across the Western Cape at the weekend.
Detectives also arrested 623 wanted suspects related to murder, attempted murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, house robbery, burglary, sexual offences and possession of drugs.
SPAS Western Cape spokesperson FC van Wyk said an intelligencedriven operation in Durbanville landed a suspect behind bars for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Friday.
Members attached to the Anti Gang Unit, Crime Intelligence and FLASH executed search warrants at the premises and found firearms such as shotguns, revolvers, pistols and ammunition.
A man aged 43 was arrested. On a farm near Philadelphia, SAPS members found ten boxes containing dagga, fifty dagga plants, two scales, three fans and other equipment used for producing cannabis.
An undisclosed amount of cash, one shotgun and two rifles, 86 rounds and three cartridges were seized.
The street value of the dagga is yet to be established.
Two suspects, a female aged 56 and male aged 47, were arrested for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and dagga.
They will appear at Atlantis Magistrate's Court today.
