Ford’s little pocket rocket, the Fiesta ST, is a rm favourite among the CAR team. The nippy little hatchback is a hoot to drive and holds great appeal as an entry-level hot hatch. Now, Ford has added extra appeal by introducing a limitededition ST model to the local listings; just 160 examples of the Fiesta ST200 will be up for grabs.
The most notable revision is a power hike from the 1,6-litre Ecoboost turbopetrol engine. Peak power climbs from 134 to 149 kw, or 200 hp, hence the badge. Maximum torque has been increased from the standard car’s 240 to 290 N.m with an additional 11 kw and 30 N.m of repower available for up to 20 seconds using the engine’s overboost function; ideal for quick and safe overtaking manoeuvres.
A shorter nal-drive ratio between the differential and six-speed, close-ratio manual transmission (reduced from 3,82 to 4,06) aids acceleration and Ford claims that the ST200 can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6,7 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 230 km/h.
Ford hasn’t only cranked up the power. Under-the-skin revisions include a rear torsionbeam axle with 27% more roll stiffness and an increase in thickness of the front anti-roll bar from 19 to 21 mm. Recalibrated dampers work in conjunction with the other suspension changes for better impact absorption. Ford’s engineers have also fettled the electronic power-assisted steering to improve cornering feedback. ESP, enhanced torque-vectoring control and ABS afford novice drivers a safety net to enjoy the ST200 at full tilt.
The new model is differentiated by a unique Storm Grey body hue and the metallic nish is complemented by model-speci c matte-black 17-inch, ve-spoke alloy wheels that house red brake callipers.
Inside, front occupants sit on body-hugging Recaro heated sport seats and there are also dual-tone seatbelts, illuminated step sills and privacy glass for the rear windows.
As with the normal ST, the ST200 features Sync infotainment with Bluetooth and voice control, Ford Mykey, keyless entry and start, climate control and seven airbags. On top of that, this range-leader also boasts reverse parking sensors with an integrated camera.
Included in the list price is a four-year/ 120 000 km warranty, four-year/60 000km service plan, ve-year corrosion warranty and three-year roadside assistance.
