Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has launched the all-new Fiat Tipo to the South African market. Two body styles, three trim levels, three engines and three transmission types will be available at launch. The sedan will be available in Pop and Easy grades, while the hatchback will add Lounge specification to those.

The engine range offers one diesel (sedan only) and two petrol derivatives: a 70 kw turbodiesel 1,3 Multijet II; and the Fire 1,4 16 V and 1,6 E-torq petrol engines. Transmissions are a five-speed manual for the turbodiesel, six-speed manual for the 1,4-litre petrol and a six-speed automatic for the 1,6-litre petrol engine.

The Tipo features Fiat’s latest-generation audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, audio streaming, text reader and voice recognition, aux-in and USB ports with ipod integration, all controlled by remote audio buttons on the steering wheel. Buyers can opt to add a rear parking camera and Tomtom 3D built-in navigation system on all models except the Easy.

Further standard equipment includes manual air-conditioning (on the Pop versions) and climate control on the remainder of the range, electric front windows, electrically adjustable door mirrors with defrosting function and a 60:40-split rear seat (excludes Pop sedan version).

Active and passive safety devices include an alarm, rear parking sensors, rain and light sensors along with an auto-dimming mirror. Dual front airbags, ESC, BA, ABS, traction control and hill-start assist are all in place to aid the driver.

All Tipos come with a three-year/100 000 km warranty and service plan.
