THERMAL MANAGEMENT

-

ther mal Energy management – the thermal requirements of the cabin, powertrain and battery pack – is key in maximising driving range and, by using a heat pump, Jaguar has combined three thermal systems into one. An ICE has plenty of waste heat to harness if needed, which is not the case with an EV because the maximum temperature in an electric motor’s cooling circuit is only about 60 degrees Celsius.

In the I-pace, heat can be absorbed from the airflow or rejected to the atmosphere and clever algorithms and control systems optimise the vehicle’s thermal balancing act to improve range by up to 50 km. Even the panoramic sunroof prevents UV light from entering the cabin, so there is no blind.

This Jaguar’s connected-car ability also helps to maximise range. As an example, the owner could use their I-pace phone app to pre-condition the cabin while it’s still being charged through the mains electricity. This saves energy from being diverted to the cabin air-con during a journey and consequently extends the range.
