Car (South Africa) - - MAIL -

I am 26, a chef and an avid CAR reader. My passion for cars started long before I could even read and write, with my dad who was an auctioneer and liquidator (auctions have always been a large part of our life). We often saw peculiar cases like a golden BMW E46 M3 with nitro in the boot, and even an S500 Merc with sand in the gas tank. The owner could not make payments so he fled to Mozambique where we managed to track him down four months later.

I remember how my father and I would examine all the vehicles before they would go on auction. We would discuss them at length and sometimes it was hard not to buy them ourselves. We bought so many of our family vehicles from auctions, such as a Land Rover Discovery 1, of which we had to have the engine replaced three times. Not even this was enough to put my father off buying Land Rovers. Shortly after, he bought a metallic sage-green Discovery 3 and it was slightly better, but resale value was pretty poor.

Some of the finest memories I have of my father are woven in with cars and our shared interest in all things automotive. Sadly, my father passed away in 2009.
