1934 Chrysler Air­flow

First Amer­i­can pro­duc­tion car to em­ploy aero­dy­nam­ics but a lack of con­sumer in­ter­est meant it was a com­mer­cial fail­ure.

1935 Voisin C28 Aerosport As a de­signer and man­u­fac­turer of air­craft, Gabriel Voisin ap­plied his knowl­edge of aero­dy­nam­ics to cre­ate this art deco mas­ter­piece.

1914 Castagna Alfa Romeo This one-off was the first­known at­tempt at stream­lin­ing a pas­sen­ger car. It was con­structed by coach­builder Castagna for the Ital­ian Count Ri­cot.

1921 Rumpler Tropfen­wa­gen The brain­child of Aus­trian air­craft de­signer Ernst Rumpler, its teardrop-shaped body and curved­glass green­house pro­duced a low drag co­ef­fi­cient of just 0,28.
