AUTONOMOUS DELIVERY VEHICLES

-

Driverless cars would not only be used as people movers, but could also be employed for deliveries. The concept removes the human constraint of deliveries within work hours, rest breaks or even the risk of not pitching for work at all. An intriguing partnership was formed between Toyota and Pizza Hut last year to investigate the future of autonomous pizza deliveries. This unlikely collaboration makes sense because Toyota is working on a connected Mobility Services Platform (MSPF) involving autonomous vehicles, and Pizza Hut delivers the most pizzas in the US. Likely a marketing ploy, Pizza Hut announced it’s developing a mobile automated oven which will be located on the back of a Toyota Tundra bakkie able to provide a pizza in just seven minutes after reaching the delivery destination. The result: piping hot goodness. Unfortunately, there’s no introduction date for this technology and no word on a local Hilux version.
