Car (South Africa)

A QUESTION AND A FEW COMMENTS

-

Congratulations to Terence on becoming the ninth editor of CAR magazine; it’s no small feat and I’m confident you take pride in your position, as many (like me) envy the title.

While on the point, I am currently 15 and want to pursue a career in motoring journalism. I’d like to know whether the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists still provides internships, as it seems to be my best bet at joining the industry after studying.

Also, the other day, I was reading the January 2005 issue when the Chris Bangle E90 3 Series was first introduced. I found it funny how, back then, the rear-end was likened to a Japanese product and now the G20 looks kind of like some of Peugeot’s offerings.

Lastly, next year the Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce will be introduced to our market. If you have any say in the colour of your test car, please specify the trademark blue for the Veloce. It looks mesmerising in the colour and with the twin tailpipes. Hopefully, that will sway South African buyers to take interest in the marque and allay the ailing sales of my favourite car. [Fantastic to hear you’re considering a career in motoring journalism, Sizo, and thank you for the congrats. As far as I’m aware, the Guild still offers internships; contact them on sagmj@iafrica.- com for more info. I really like the Bangle-era BMWS; the rst-gen 6 Series with its bulbous boot lid is a personal favourite. And regarding choosing the colour of test vehicles: if we had a say in the choice of hue, our photographers would never again grumble about having to shoot dark vehicles in bright sunlight… – editor.]
