GUESSING GAME

-

After reading your latest Performance Shootout issue, I realised you guys get to drive the fastest, slowest, cheapest and most expensive cars. But what do you drive in real life? I got my head around some of you and this is what I worked out…

Terence, you being the big boss, when you exit your home in the morning, your chauffeur will have the door of your Rolls or Bentley open, your computer will be fired up, your three fingers of Scotland’s finest, the best of Fidel Castro next to your ashtray and gold Ronson lighter.

Peter Palm, as Lamborghini started as a tractor manufacturer, you will likely have a Lambo double cab with enough space at the back for at least two bales of hay for the horses.

For Nicol Louw, the biggest-engined Kawasaki with two sidecars: one for Mrs Louw and family and the other for the cooler box, towels, umbrella and beach chairs. You drop off Mrs Louw at Bikini Beach in Gordons Bay and remove the sidecar. For a warm-up, go up and down Sir Lowry’s Pass and then along the scenic route to Rooi Els and back. Next week, Chapmans Peak Drive?

Deon Joubert drives a Red Bull F1 (if he can get Max out) with a long antenna fitted with a plastic orange. Unfortunately, he will have to wear a gas mask with an oxygen bottle fitted to the side of the car.

I reckon Nikesh Kooverjee, as the young guy, drives a black GTI with tinted windows, red or gold mags and a single exhaust the size of a Howitzer cannon. If he is single, he will make a catch.

I am still trying to figure out the other guys in your office. After about 50 years of reading CAR, each issue is better than the last, which is why I can’t wait for the next issue. Please keep up the good work! PETER DUVENAGE Worcester [Thanks for the laugh, Peter! I can but only guess what a Ronson lighter is, or what it must be like being chauffeured in a Bentley or Rollsroyce. I think you got the rest of the guys spot-on, though… – editor.]

“I’ve been reading CAR since 1969 and occasionally I mail copies to my son-in-law in Villafranca, Spain. He reads your magazine and says it is the best in the world”
