SEATS MADE FOR WALKING
Jaguar Land Rover has announced the development of what it bills “the seat of the future”.
The first-of-its-kind pew is designed to simulate the rhythm of walking. This is achieved by incorporating a series of actuators into the foam which constantly make micro-adjustments. According to JLR, this technology helps mitigate the health risks resulting from sitting too long. Currently being tested by JLR’S body interiors research division, the shape-shifting seats form part of JLR’S Destination Zero initiative which aims to make societies safer and healthier, and the environment cleaner. “We are using innovative technologies not seen before in the automotive industry to help tackle an issue that affects people across the globe,” says Dr Steve Iley, JLR’S chief medical officer. According to the World Health Organisation, more than a quarter of people worldwide are living increasingly sedentary lifestyles.
