Corolla Crossing
The Corolla Cross joins the similarly badged Yaris as yet another compact SUV in Toyota’s line-up
The latest Toyota to bear the Cross denomination, the Corolla Cross is underpinned by the GA-C arrangement of Toyota’s TNGA platform. Slotting in between the more compact C-HR and larger RAV4, the Corolla Cross is 4 460 mm long, 1 825 mm wide and 1 620 mm tall.
The crossover comes with a choice of two drivetrains, both sending power to the front wheels via a CVT transmission. The first is Toyota’s 1,8-litre four-cylinder unit producing 103 kw and 177 N.m. Employing a similar yet detuned version of the familiar naturally aspirated unit, the hybrid variant will have a total power output of 90 kw.
The interior mimics that of the RAV4 and is endowed with myriad convenience items such as an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with screen-mirroring. According to the Japanese automaker, luggage space measures 440 or 487 litres, depending on whether a space saver or mobility kit is fitted.
“Always open to the sky”, the completely roofless Sián employs a similar supercapacitor-integrated 48 V hybrid arrangement as its coupé sibling producing a total combined output of 602 kw; 577 kw (available from 8 500 r/min) of which comes from its internal-combustion V12. The Sant’agata Bolognese brand says the roofless super-sportscar is capable of reaching the three-figure mark from standstill in less than 2,9 seconds. Top speed, meanwhile, is rated at more than 350 km/h. Only 19 examples will be built, all of which are already sold.
