THE ENTHUSIASTS’ TAKE

ROWAN COLE CHETTY

The new M4 is a work of art. From the word go it meets all expectations for the G-series M cars ... BMW has done it again. The F80 Ms gave us a massive leap from non-turbo to turbo and now they’ve just blown my mind; the power delivery and stability control, it’s an absolute mean machine. There isn’t much I’d change, except the colour, I’d prefer a more elegant black finish.

RIDWAAN BABAMIA

It’s a very balanced car; power delivery is smooth and it sits brilliantly in the corners. I actually like the styling, so much so that we’ve embraced it as our official BMW Car Club Cape Town logo. If I have to nit-pick, the engine note in the cabin is a bit artificial and the (optional) sports bucket seats are difficult to get in and out of.

DENIS JOUBERT

Having owned a Dakar Yellow E36 two-door M3, I may be in the minority, but I really like the colour of this particular M4. I’m still not sold on that front end, though. Although it’s a big, heavy car, the ride is more resolved than that of the E92. Thanks to the turbo motor it’s a real powerhouse now. but probably isn’t that much quicker than the E92 in skilled hands.

ZAKI HENDRICKS

It looks good, but it would look even better with some carbon goodies. Performance-wise, the car is an improvement on the F80. Power delivery is on point and the handling and grip is excellent. Driving out of corners, power delivery through the M Steptronic gearbox is way better than the older version. The new M4 is an amazing machine, BMW outdid themselves.
