FORTUNER FIGHTER

New Everest “peaks” some interest

-

No sooner had the dust settled on the reveal of the all-new Raptor, then Ford lifted the veil on its next-generation Everest. Like its predecessor, the new Everest will be underpinned by the third-generation T6 platform with a couple of model-specific revisions to the rear suspension and steering module assemblies. Design-wise, there are several elements borrowed from the Ranger, including the C-clamp LED daytime running lights and clamshell bonnet, while the rear now features a trim bar spanning the brake lamp clusters. The overall dimensions will differ little from those of the outgoing model, except for a 50 mm wider track and a marginally longer wheelbase. In conjunction with optimised C-pillar glazing, this will make the interior feel a bit more spacious. A choice of stand-off and integrated roof rails, as well as a zone lighting system that enables you to individually control the exterior lights, are also on the cards. Like the Ranger, the Everest will play host to a choice of 8- or 12,4-inch digitised instrument panels and a 12-inch portrait-oriented SYNC 4A infotainment system. Powerplants will include a 3,0-litre V6 turbodiesel and 2,0-litre single- and biturbo diesel units. Depending on the unit specified, a choice of six-speed mated and 10-speed automatic transmissions will be offered. Two 4x4 systems will be made available depending on powertrain specification: a two-speed shift-on-the-fly part-time module and a permanent system with an electromechanical transfer case. A drivetrain management system with Normal/eco/tow-haul/slippery presets will also be offered on certain models.

Ford is looking to fit some innovative driver assistance systems on the new Everest, including three types of adaptive cruise control (with stop and go, stop-go and lane centring with road sign recognition-actuated speed control) semi-automated front and rear brake assist, enhanced blind-spot monitoring and evasive steering assist. An updated version of the Fordpass app with functions such as remote engine start, service booking and concierge services will also be available in certain markets.

ETA:

Order books will open in Q2 2022 with information regarding local specifications and line-up emerging closer to that period.
