The WELL-CURATED LIFE of Agata Karolina
The young perfumer shares her passion for all things creative, curious and contemporary
1. If I could collaborate with anyone it’d be… Danish-icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. He has such an incredible perception of light and story and communicates his vision in the most unexpected ways. 2. The inspiration behind House of Gozdawa was… To tell stories of places, people and things I’ve experienced. Gozdawa is the name of my family crest, and it felt fitting as it was my grandparents and my mother who taught me to work with natural tinctures and oils. 3. The cookbook every kitchen needs is… Yotam Ottolenghi’s Plenty. The way he navigates each ingredient with such focus and grace is extraordinary. 4. I find inspiration in… Travel. Most recently Rome, where the culture and architecture are beyond beautiful. 5. The best runway collection this season? The colours, form and textures in Kenzo’s spring/summer 2016 collection blew me away. 6. The most iconic piece of furniture is... The ‘Chuligan’ chair by Wladyslaw Wolkowski. It’s an amazing example of materiality and form play.
7. The young artist to watch is... Katharien De Villiers. Her work is bringing role play to Southern African contemporary art. 8. My favourite sculpture is... The name is unknown, but it’s a crazy monkey in a blue shirt by Limpopo-based artist Philip Rikhotso.
9. My travel bag essential is... Uriage Thermal Water face and body spray.
10. I’m currently obsessed with... Woven baskets, especially those from Mungo and Barrydale Weavers. I love the texture and the smells in combination. 11. My perfect escape is… The island of Nossy Be, off the coast of Madagascar, and the ylang-ylang plantations on the mainland.
