The Brand When I design Dounia Home lighting, I look closely at Moroccan architecture dating back to the 12th century. I study plaster embellishments, woodcarvings and mosaics, and pull specific elements that I incorporate into my work. I also look at the modern home in search of ways to create forms that can live in harmony with today’s spaces. I choose to work with semiprecious metals such as brass and copper that are native to the region. The Inspiration at the beginning of every collection, I travel back to Morocco. always. Being there instinctively fuels my creative self in a way that no other place does. Walking through the medina, the souks, visiting historical monuments, they inspire me and give me the ability to draw new connections with my heritage. The Future There should be more intra-african trade fairs and opportunities for african artists and designers to showcase their work; more specifically there should be intra-african trade and investment opportunities within the continent. 8 douniahome.com
