If the whole idea of sub­mit­ting your tax re­turn makes you want to ugly-cry into a tub of ice cream, you might be in luck: there are cases in which you don’t have to sub­mit any tax re­turns at all. This is the case if:

Your an­nual in­come from 1 March 2017 to 28 Fe­bru­ary 2018 did not ex­ceed R350 000;

You don’t need to claim any tax- de­ductible ex­penses such as med­i­cal-aid con­tri­bu­tions, re­tire­ment an­nu­ity, or travel ex­penses/ other ex­penses;

You re­ceived no other in­come, for ex­am­ple rental in­come (such as via Airbnb) or in­ter­est for the year;

You only re­ceived re­mu­ner­a­tion/salary/ em­ploy­ment in­come from one em­ployer be­tween March 2017 and Fe­bru­ary 2018.
