Cops find body of East London policeman
EAST London police yesterday recovered the body of a fellow officer believed to have died when his body was flung out of a vehicle that overturned on Saturday night.
The accident took
in Voortrekker Road near Mdantsane around 8pm. A state vehicle was found at the scene but police were unable to find the body.
The search did not continue the following morning.
Finally yesterday, a passerby alerted police to a body lying in short grass not far from where the vehicle had
until been recovered.
The body, clearly visible along Voortrekker Road near Mdantsane, was discovered yesterday morning.
Police said the dead policeman was a warrant officer in his early 40s attached to the East London Commercial Crimes Unit.
Police are investigating
of culpable homicide.
Provincial police spokeswoman Lieutenant-colonel Sibongile Soci said the accident, together with circumstances leading to the death of the officer, would be investigated.
He could not be named as his next of kin had not yet been notified, Soci said. — email@example.com
