SA’S outage woes eased
UNPLANNED outages eased to 3 954 megawatts (MW) on Monday from 5 037MW last Thursday and this year’s peak of 5 776MW on May 3. This compared with this year’s low of 2 617MW on April 23 and its own benchmark of having a maximum of 3 600MW offline in unplanned maintenance, Eskom said in its twiceweekly capacity update service.
The electricity generating capacity available to meet peak demand on Monday was 35 056MW (including open cycle gas turbines), while demand was 33 097MW, as cooler weather raised demand on April 12.
Planned maintenance rose to 4 180MW from 3 415MW last Thursday. The peak so far this year was 7 473MW on April 5.
Peak demand for this week was forecast at 33 230MW yesterday. — I-net Bridge
