Serving neighbours and city in cleanup

- By SHANAAZ PRINCE AND VUVU VENA

BY GRACE Ministries (BGM), a nonprofit organisation headed by founder and director, Dr Leigh Evertse will take to the streets tomorrow as part of their Windyridge Road Project (WRP), to clean up the streets in Parkside’s main road.

“It is hoped this project will uplift the lives and standards of living of the people it impacts, both physically as well as spiritually,” Evertse said.

“BGM aims to inspire the residents to take ownership of their neighbourhood, premises, accompanying paved areas adjacent to their homes and consequently the whole of Windyridge Road.

“They will in turn then be an example to the broader Parkside, Ziphunzana, Parkridge, Duncan Village, Gompo Town and Buffalo Flats areas.

“It is also hoped that this project will have a snowball effect on other streets’ residents in the broader northern areas of Buffalo City.”

The cleanup campaign is also supported by DA ward councillor Derek Green, Buffalo City Municipality, John Bisseker Senior Secondary School, Windyridge Road residents, Link FM and family and friends of Evertse.

“It will include the removal of all rubble from paved areas, verges and sidewalks, clearing of street litter, re-bagging of broken black bags and rubble that lies scattered at various intersecting street corners, and inspiring all residents of Windyridge Road to come on board and partner with BGM,” Evertse said.

The project, which will run from tomorrow until November 30, will also include the painting of approximately 100 homes in Windyridge Road, which are in dire need being repainted.

“This is a project that I have embarked upon in faith . . . I do however serve an awesome God and am believing for all the support to be forthcoming,” added Evertse, who said the campaign was still in need of support.

Anyone able to donate 20 litres of exterior paint per home, paint brushes and rollers, trays, sand paper, exterior polifilla, black bags, gloves and anything else that will be needed, is asked to contact Evertse on 082-4546-553.

Organisations within Bhisho’s police college have started a community outreach programme that has seen three beneficiaries since its inception at the end of last month.

The college’s branches of Men for Change and the Women’s Network embarked on this programme on May 30, when they cleaned up the local S’khobeni Primary School.

Five days later the outreach programme visited iKhwezi Lokusa, an orphanage that takes in abandoned and neglected children.

The groups supplied them with muchneeded nappies and groceries.

On June 7, they painted the paediatric ward at Bhisho Hospital and supplied the young patients with new plastic chairs and tables, as well as some toys.

Mvunyelwa Guqa, coordinator for the outreach programme, said there was still much more that they were planning to achieve.

Anyone wanting to assist can contact Guqa on (040) 608-8201 or 073-1926-433.
