Lil’kim headed for South Africa

- By ANDILE NDLOVU

AMERICAN female rapper Lil’ Kim is making her way back to South Africa for three shows in as many days in September.

The 37-year-old was in the country last year with Timbaland, Ciara, Phat Joe and DJ Scratch as part of Kenny Kunene’s ZAR Fest, but is on a solo mission this time around. She will be with her 14-member entourage. Hunnypot Entertainment revealed yesterday that the rapper, real name Kimberly Jones, will play at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg on September 6, Durban’s Wavehouse the next night, and finally Trinity Nightclub in Cape Town on September 8.

Hunnypot’s Oren Bermeister said yesterday: “There has been an excellent response. The industry is very excited. So we’re expecting that the events will be a huge success”.

Her nemesis, Nicki Minaj, has been teasing her South African “Barbz” about a possible tour here before the end of this year.

Relations between the self-professed queen and the popular upstart have been prickly since the latter released her catchy Stupid Hoe, which many believe is a go at Lil’ Kim. Via her alter ego, Roman Zolanski, Minaj spits: “I get it cracking like a bad back-B**ch talkin she the queen, when she looking like a lab rat- I’m Angelina, you Jennifer – Come on b**ch, you see where Brad at”.

During her arrival press conference in South Africa last year, Lil’ Kim addressed the Minaj feud, saying: “I came out at a time when today’s female rappers were still very young and I paved the way for where they are today. I deserve the respect of being a pioneer and there’s just so much negativity out there these days amongst female rappers.

“I tried to extend my support out to her and when it was rejected, I didn’t take well to that, especially when she’s disrespected me in such a public way. I refuse to talk about her and give her any more press,” she added.

Bermeister said they were in negotiations with local stars Toya Delazey and Micasa to open for Lil’ Kim, but Micasa’s already busy schedule has them only available for the opening night.
