AN ANC councillor allegedly attacked her estranged husband’s mistress with a plate of food in what the mistress claimed was a fit of jealousy.

Luyanda Ndzuzo, 35, has filed an assault case against Great Kei ward 7 councillor Luleka Ndabambi, 38.

Ndzuzo said Ndabambi’s differences with her go back a year when she began dating Ndlumbini’s husband Khayalethu Gavumente, 34.

The couple have since separated, and Ndzuzo said she was now Gavumente’s live-in partner.

Things came to a head last Saturday when both women attended the funeral of Gavumente’s younger brother, Mawethu. Ndzuzo was seated behind the councillor when the two accused the other of gossiping about the other.

Mourners on their return from the graveyard had just been served plates of fried chicken, beef stew, rice, butternut and cabbage, when the two became embroiled in a heated argument.

In an interview with the Dispatch, Ndabambi said Ndzuzo walked towards her carrying a glass of water and started to provoke her. “I lost my cool and grabbed a plate of food from someone and threw it at her,” she said.

“Other mourners, including my husband, intervened and stopped the fight. I regret what happened, especially since this was at a funeral,” she said.

Ndzuzo said she suffered serious cuts to her face, and was rushed to Komga Hospital. She said she had no choice but to file criminal charges, since Ndabambi was “not just another township girl, but a leader in the community”.

“What will young children think when they see a councillor behaving like this at a funeral? Is this the type of leader we should have in our communities? Hell no.

“I am not going to back down. I will ensure she faces the consequences of her actions,” said Ndzuzo.

Ndabambi said the whole thing had been blown out of proportion.

“Politics aside, I am fighting here for my family. My enemies were not happy when I was deployed as a councillor and so they now use everything to destroy me.

“They are now politicising this whole thing,” she said.

Ndabambi said she had since asked her relatives to apologise on her behalf to Ndzuzo’s family.

The man at the centre of the squabble, Gavumente, refused to comment yesterday and ordered the Dispatch out of his Komga home.

“I don’t have to comment on such things,” said Gavumente.

Police would not confirm the incident despite the case number being sent through a text message to them on Monday.
