Davane’s book to inspire youth

- By POLISWA PLAATJIE

FORT Hare FM presenter, Siyabonga Davane will launch his first Xhosa motivational book at this year’s National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.

Davane said he decided to write his book Kanti nawe ungawenza umahluko (You can also make a difference) to encourage young people in the province not to give up on their dreams.

“I’ve noticed young people in the province have low self-esteem, especially those in rural areas.

“They don’t believe they can become anything they want to be.

“I’ve had challenges in my life but I’ve never allowed that to affect me.

“I failed my matric in 2001 but I went back and started from Grade 11.

“Eventually I passed my matric and went to university,” Davane said.

It was then he realised how much he loved debating current affairs issues that affected the youth.

“I did lots of work with Love Life and received awards for debating.”

Davane said many young people felt their lives were worthless and there was nothing they could do.

“This book focuses on the fundamental issues that affect the youth today, such as identity.

“I want young people to know there is hope despite their hopeless situation – we can all make a difference,” he said. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
