Migrants detained

RUSSIAN police have detained about 1 400 illegal migrants living in a makeshift village in Moscow, police said yesterday.

The raid targeted a settlement in the city’s southeast, where some 1 380 migrant workers from Central Asia lived in crowded rooms, the Interfax news agency reported.

The illegal dwellers were taken to police stations where they were fined for administrative violations before being released. — Sapa-DPA
