including Madiba’s grandson Mandla Mandela, his wife Nodiyala Mandela, his mother Nolusapho Mandela, Mayibuye Mandela, family members and elder Napilisi Mandela – who is very close to Mandla and acts as his councillor – King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo’s wife Queen Noluntu Dalindyebo, Prince Thanduxolo Mtirara, and Zuko Jongisiswe Dani.

KSD mayor Nonkoliso Ngqongwa led a delegation of councillors to the event.

“Some of the things happening [in the Mandela] house are disturbing us and could not be happening in the house of our beloved Mr South Africa [referring to Madiba].

“This is a man who fought hard liberating us and made many sacrifices,” said Dabula.

Dabula said Mandela was a man of peace who created peace with his enemies.

“He is the evangelist of peace, something that we never knew. We thought that when he was released in jail he would instigate violence.

“So the house of Dlomo [clan name of Madiba] the house of Mandela must lead us as the nation in showing respect to the old man.

“Peace and unity must prevail in the house of Mandela for not only them to be united but also the nation,” he said.

Bishop Andile Mbete also of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa said Mandela was like a father to all South Africa and said they were not to pray for God to immortalise Madiba but to find joy and recovery.

“Even pray that he must find joy with God. Even in his bed he is not communicating with other people but must be calm and find joy in God,” said Mbete.

Mbete also called upon the world to pray not only for a speedy recovery of Madiba but unity among his family.

“There is no way we can find joy while the house of Mandela is getting divided.

“We must pray cracks to be closed.

“We must pray for unity in the family of Madiba. Unity within this family will happen as God is with us,” said Mbete.

Mtirara, who spoke on behalf of the family, thanked the attendees for their prayers.

“We noted that it was also prayed for the unity of the family and we all wish that can happen,” said Mtirara.

Mandla did not speak and Queen Dalindyebo, one of the organisers of the prayer, told the media that there will be no interviews.

Ngqongwa announced that tomorrow there will be a provincial prayer meeting organised by the ANC, to be held in Qunu starting at 11am.
