APRIL 9 1964: The winner of the East London 1964 Internatio­nal Amateur Film Festival, Jacques Chalmandri­er of Paris, arrived at the East London airport with a smile but without his luggage yesterday. He won the prize for his film titled Objectif Festival. He and his wife have been loaned a suit of clothing until their luggage arrives and will stay at a beachfront hotel for a week as part of their prize, which also included their flight from Paris. APRIL 9 1984: Two major economic boosts have been announced for East London. The first developmen­t is that the Minister of Environmen­tal Affairs Sarel Hayward has announced the go-ahead for the constructi­on of the R225millio­n Wriggleswa­de Dam near Stutterhei­m. The second developmen­t is the announceme­nt that the second phase to the developmen­t of the Vincent Park Shopping Centre will start soon.
