Struggling Stars pin hopes on Henyekane
IT MIGHT be a good thing for relegationFree State Stars that their strike-force is beginning to find the net more regularly.
But it looks like a case of too many too late for them as the season is almost over.
Striker Richard Henyekane surprised all and sundry by suddenly finding his footing and scoring goals again.
But this is hardly enough to save Stars, who are placed second from the bottom and left with a paltry six games to play.
The only miracle their technical team could be praying for is that Henyekane scores in every one of their remaining games.
They will once more look to him again to find the target when they host SuperSport United in their Premiership clash at the Charles Mopeli Stadium this evening.
“Henyekane is doing pretty well and I hope he scores again tonight,” said Stars assistant coach Mark Harrison, who remains optimistic about his team’s survival at the end of the
has season.
“I am pretty confident that we are not going to be relegated. We have six games left and more points to play for. We are doing everything within our power not to concede more goals.
“We expect a tough game from United, who are battling for a top four spot on the log table. We are going to try and cut the ground short for them tonight,” said Harrison.
United’s coach Cavin Johnson is uncomfortable at the prospect of facing a relegation-threatened team.
“They are in a position they have never been to in a long time. It’s a dogfight situation and every game now is going to be like a cup final,” he said. If Henyekane maintains his newfound form, then United’s defenders are in for a torrid time.
He has rattled the net six times since his loan move from Mamelodi Sundowns this season. He is four goals behind the current leading goalscorer, Bernard Parker.
