RISING junior golfing talent Demi Flanagan will be looking to take her top recent form into the Sanlam South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Stellenbosch Golf Club starting on Sunday.

“I have been feeling a bit of pressure but overall I’m good,” said Flanagan.

Flanagan has claimed two big wins so far this year while also enjoying some top placings in difficult fields.

“I have played quite well this year – so far I have won two events and I’m feeling confident,” said Flanagan.

The Hudson Park High School youngster made history when she became the first girl to win the Fish River Junior Golf Tournament earlier this year.

The tournament, which is played with golfers from Border and Eastern Province, had the best local young talent on view.

Flanagan was one of only three girls who entered alongside 54 boys.

She shot rounds of 71, 77 and 75 and finished a clear 10 shots ahead of the chasing pack.

“I was happy with my win, but didn’t know I was the first girl until they told me, so it was really a nice surprise,” Flanagan claimed.

The win qualifies Flanagan to play in the Fish River Open at the end of November which will be a massive test for her.

The other major year, came at the played at Club.

Some of the countries top came and graced the event.

Flanagan was on top of her game and finished tied seventh overall and third in the juniors.

On the Border closed side, which sees just the Border golfers competing against each other, she triumphed over another impressive rising youngster, Yolanda Duma, 3 and 2 in the final to take the matchplay championship.

Flanagan had earlier beaten top veteran Border woman’s golfer Millie Zim to reach the final.

Flanagan also claimed various prizes for the champs which included runner-up in the Border Ladies closed 36 holes best gross, runner-up in the Mercedes-Benz Trophy best nett over 36 holes and winner best nett over the field Border Juniors only.

She was also part of the East London Team that won the teams events as well as the gross and nett team prizes.

Following this Sunday’s SA Amateur Stroke Play Championships which will finish on Tuesday, Flanagan will compete in the Women’s Golf SA 72-hole team champs in May in Mossel Bay and then the SA Interprovincial Champs later in the year. win for Flanagan this Border Ladies Championship the East London Golf
