- By MPHUMZI ZUZILE

HUSBAND and wife, Ndumiso and Zoleka Capa will tomorrow both be sworn in as members of parliament.

Zoleka Capa, the former Eastern Cape rural development and agrarian reform MEC, appears at number 52 on the ANC national to national list, while her husband, Ndumiso, comes in at number 16 on the province to national list.

The Eastern Cape-based duo join a line of other powerful couples to represent their parties in parliament.

Late former president Nelson Mandela and his former wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela served in the same cabinet between 1994 and 1999.

President Jacob Zuma and his former wife Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma were in the same cabinet between 1999 and 2001.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch shortly before boarding a flight to Cape Town, Ndumiso Capa said he was grateful the party had shown confidence in him by deploying him to the national assembly.

“I am very happy. Pity will be leaving my home in Flagstaff and temporarily relocating to Cape Town.

Zoleka Capa was expected to travel to Cape Town via Johannesburg where she was attending the ANC’s national executive committee meeting.

Earlier this year Zoleka threatened

IDA provincial leader Athol Trollip after he publicly slated some of her actions while mayor of the O R Tambo district municipality, including her purchase of a number of farms.

According to a Daily Dispatch report late last year, Ndumiso owed the Eastern Cape Rural Finance Corporation (ECRFC) more than R267 400 in unpaid loans.

Until this week, his wife was the political head of all agencies of the rural development and agrarian reform department.

Last month, Ndumiso was named by Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande as one of the new council members brought aboard to change the fortunes of the embattled Walter Sisulu University.

Late last month, Zoleka’s entourage made the news when her Audi Q7 collided with pensioner Nomvume Dabula, 77, killing her instantly. The MEC denied being present at the accident.
