Wooden mic singer still pursuing dream

- By MAMELA GOWA

IDOLS SA season 10 wooden mic winner Ayanda Ntame is fast becoming famous in his East London hometown this after he was crowned as this year’s not so talented contestant during the finale last week Sunday.

Ntame, who is originally from Mdantsane, made headlines when he went for the Idols SA auditions in Johannesburg during his stay with an aunt in Tsakane earlier this year. He sang or should we say butchered the legendary Via Orlando hit song by Dr Malinga and left the country laughing out loud after his attempt of Dr Malinga’s flying dance moves and even twisted the lyrics of the song.

As if that was not enough after being given three no’s by the judges Unathi Msengana, Gareth Cliff and Randall Abrahams he came out of the audition room not knowing where to exit and said on camera that he wanted to change the judges as he deserved to win a gold ticket to Sun City.

However, despite the judges’ take on his singing abilities his aunt Anelisa Ngxila said Fistoz was adamant to return to Jozi and getting the wooden mic will not stop pursuing his poetry, comedy and singing career.

For the past five years the 28-year-old has been entertaining hundreds of train commuters travelling between Berlin and East London daily performing his freestyle songs and poetry.

Ngxila said: “He is an ambitious child in the family and while people might think he is not well they could be surprised by his thinking abilities because the jokes that he makes in the train is a way of living for him.

“He recites poetry about social issues, real issues that are affecting the youth from sugar daddies and the crisis of teenage pregnancies.

“We have tried to apply for funding trying to push for him to produce something and we even visited a studio in Southernwood to see how he could make his dream a reality.”

Following his claim to fame, new doors have now opened for the man from Mdantsane’s NU12 as he was booked to make his debut appearance in the 99% Xhosa Comedy show which was held at Hemingways yesterday.

Mdantsane-born comedian Anele Shube said Fistoz was funny and people loved him.

“I approached him to ask him to perform the same Via Orlando track he performed on Idols SA and he agreed. Following his appearance on TV, a lot of people now want to take pictures with him,” Shube said. — mamelag@dispatch.
