Football feast set for Sisa Dukashe

- By MAWANDE MVUMVU

A FEAST of football is set to land in Mdantsane today with three of the seven Buffalo City SAB League fixtures for the day scheduled to take place at Sisa Dukashe.

The only teams spared of action this weekend are Cloud 9 and Future Tigers, owned by the vice-president of Safa Buffalo City Nkululeko Sitywantsi and the federation’s secretary, Vukile Mlanjana respectively.

Mlanjana said the fixture was postponed because four of his club’s players had been selected for the Premier’s Cup, adding that Safa rules allowed that such an action be taken.

“That game is no longer happening because four of our players are going away for the Premier’s Cup and the rules allow us to call off the league match,” said Mlanjana.

The sentiment was shared by Safa vice-president and competitions director, Aleb Iglesias. However, Iglesias could not say where exactly in the Safa statutes was the rule calling for the postponement of a fixture if four players from one team had other football commitments.

At the Sisa Dukashe Stadium, in-form Relatives FC welcome Mighty Taliban at 12 noon before Mighty Bucks collide with struggling Shiloh at 2.30pm.

Then at 5pm Zebra United and African Bombers will wrap up the day.

Elsewhere in Ndevana at 3pm, Wonderful Attackers take on Rising Stars who will be hoping to improve their 12th position .

Third-placed King Spurs will welcome Amania Sporting at Breidbach also at 3pm while top of the log Parkside Sporting will be expected to solidify their position when they go toe to toe with Zwelitsha United Stars at the North End Stadium.

At the Fort Hare grounds, Black Eagles have a date with Mighty Swallows at 3pm.

Meanwhile, high flying Sporting will be hoping to maintain their undefeated streak when they face off with Cloud 9 in the Safa Buffalo City Nedbank Cup playoffs final tomorrow at the Jan Smuts Stadium at 3pm.

Cloud 9 though, will have the advantage of having had today’s league game cancelled.

Sporting boss Graham Lottering is confident his charges will rise against all odds.

“To us, nothing is a disadvantage. It is fine they are playing once and us twice. We are super ready,” he said.
