DA serves papers on Mbete and Nhleko

-

THE DA served lawyers’ letters on National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete and Police Minister Nathi Nhleko yesterday‚ party leader Mmusi Maimane said.

“We are telling them that the police minister’s facts are incorrect‚ and that parliament must not consider his report because it is unconst irrational and unlawful‚” Maimane said in a statement.

“We are telling Minister Nhleko that South Africans will not pay more money for Nkandla.”

Maimane‚ who is visiting Nelson Mandela Bay‚ said if his party won next year’s local government elections in the city‚ the DA would implement improved policing to fight crime and gangsterism – including setting up specialised units to target gangs and drug dealing.

“There is no place for gangsters and drug lords on these streets,” Maimane said. “And it’s time for a government that will work with you to drive them away.

“A DA-led metro will institute a metro police force that can intervene when there are spikes in gang-related crime.

“But what is really needed is a permanent police unit focused on dealing with the gang problem.

“That requires bringing back the specialised antigang and anti-drug units that were disbanded 10 years ago. And we are fighting for you in parliament to achieve this.” — RDM News Wire
