Police follow leads as three stripped cars are found

- By BONGANI FUZILE

EAST London police have recovered three vehicles suspected to have been stolen in the past few months around Buffalo City Metro.

The three vehicles, all Toyota Tazz cars, were found stripped of their parts by patrolling officers off the old King William’s Town road near Needs Camp. Police said the bushy area the vehicles were found in is known to be used by thieves to strip stolen vehicles.

East London police spokesman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said they would investigate where the three vehicles were stolen.

“We were recently in this bush where we discovered vehicles that were stripped.

“These three vehicles have made it to seven the number of vehicles found here and we suspect that these are the same suspects,” said Mqala.

She said no arrests had been made. “You can see some older parts on the ground and that tells you that more vehicles have been stripped here,” said Mqala.

In one of the vehicles,

business cards with a King William’s Town address were found.

“We will investigate this and we suspect that the vehicles could have been stolen between the King and East London areas.”

In January this year four vehicles, which were also stripped of parts and tyres, were recovered not far from yesterday’s scene.

The vehicles were recovered after a three-day intelligence driven operation.

“We call for any person who might have information on stolen vehicles to contact the police and that information will be treated with confidentiality.

“We also appeal to motorists to report their stolen vehicles immediately,” said Mqala. —
