World power boat champs to fly Border flag in Malta
DEFENDING world P750 power boating champions Chad Romans and Kyle Kumm are off to the world champs once again and they aim to defend their title against the world’s best.
The duo were in top form when they swept competition aside at the world champs in the UKin 2013 and they will be looking to do the same this time around in Malta.
They head off from East London Airport tomorrow and carry the hopes of the Border on their shoulders.
The competition gets under way on October 10 and continues to October 17, over which time they will be under extreme pressure as the best power boat talent in the world tries to dethrone them over the three disciplines – surf and at the Vaal.
“The season started out well for us but, as with any sport, we experienced some technical difficulties. However, we still managed to hang on to third place overall for the three legs of the national season,” Romans noted.
Despite it all, these two have been at the top before and know exactly what it takes to win, so they will be focused and ready come race time.
Their first goal of qualifying for this year’s world champs has been achieved and now the focus turns to the competition in a week’s time.
“The top-three boats qualify for the world champs and being the defending champions, we now find ourselves on the way to Malta,” Romans said.
