- By ROSS ROCHE

THE 21st Cambridge High School Cricket Festival gets under way today with school teams from across the country taking part in the annual event.

Twelve teams in all will be participating in the festival which will span the next three days and encompass all three versions of the game.

East London teams taking part in the action will be Cambridge, Stirling, Port Rex, Hudson Park Invitation, Selborne Invitation, Border Development and the Canon Shield XI.

Out of town teams see Port Alfred High School, Westering, Victoria Park and Pearson from Port Elizabeth and Wartburg Kirchdorf School and George Campbell High School from Kwa ZuluNatal, arriving in the city to take part.

All the matches will be played at schools throughout the city with Cambridge and Selborne (two fields) and Stirling, Hudson and Port Rex (one field) all hosting matches on each of the days.

Today will see 14 games played as teams open the tournament with two T20 games each.

Tomorrow the teams will switch to declaration cricket, with seven games being played and on Monday a final seven games will be played as teams end off the festival with some limited overs cricket.

All games get under way at 9am today and tomorrow, with Monday's start set for 8.30am.

Some interesting match-ups will see the two Selborne teams take on the two KwaZulu-Natal sides in T20 action this morning, while this afternoon Hudson Park against Pearson and Stirling up against Victoria Park should be exciting clashes.

Tomorrow hosts Cambridge will be tasked with taking on Pearson in what should be some entertaining declaration action.

The final day will see Cambridge take on KZN's George Campbell, while Port Rex against Port Alfred High should throw up some great 40 over action.

In all, each team will play four games over the three formats and a lot of fun is expected.

“We are all set for a great weekend of cricket,” said Cambridge Head of Sports Tim Stirk.
