Zuma woos voters away

-

AND so it was that President Jacob Zuma committed an act so nonsensical that it brought the country to a standstill. The financial markets went into a tailspin.

Then, the president seemingly took heed of his countrymen’s concern about the surprise dismissal of finance minister Nhlanlha Nene and appointment of the forgettable David van Rooyen in his place. The president reshuffled it all and put Pravin Gordhan back in his old post. All this in four days.

As always, the ANC spin-doctors came out spouting drivel to appease the gullible.

But this time there was no way the blame could be put at the door of apartheid, the darn imperialists or, even, the mystical “third force”.

Everyone knew the buck stopped with the honourable president and, perhaps, his cohorts.

Mr Card, the dark days disadvantaged many of us black people.

I wish in your next letter you would share your ideas and experiences, including on the council, that would help to teach young people like myself how we can best maintain and build the democracy we have. — Thabang Maseko, Yure Mdyogolo ANC BEC member
